WHAT IS A PROSPECTIVE STUDENT VISIT?
Some people refer to it as "shadowing," which is when an incoming student attends classes with an existing student to get a feel for the school, the classes, and student life at Clay High School.
WHO CAN SHADOW?
Any 8th grade student who is interested in attending Clay. Any 9th-11th grade student from other districts may request to shadow.
WHEN ARE PROSPECTIVE STUDENT VISIT DAYS?
Every Wednesday and Friday there is class from October through December. There may be additional dates available during that time period if the need arises. The goal is to have all prospective students view the school before the applications are due. The application for the Visual and Performing Arts Magnet, the AP Capstone Magnet, or Open-Enrollment is due December 15. If you are wanting to schedule a prospective student visit day after the magnet application deadline, please call Mrs. Beard directly at 393-4921.
Students may select a FULL-DAY visit (9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m., including lunch), a HALF-DAY MORNING (9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.--periods 1, 2 & 3); or a HALF-DAY AFTERNOON (1:20 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.--periods 5, 6 & 7).
WHO WILL BE MY STUDENT'S AMBASSADOR?
Your student's ambassador will be in the grade immediately above that of your student, so if your student is a rising freshman, his/her ambassador will be a freshman. This allows your student to see the classes she/he will be in next year.
Prospective students may request a student ambassador; however, all of our ambassadors are vetted for behavior, grades, and schedule, so your requested ambassador may not be available. If your requested ambassador is not available, you will be assigned another ambassador with similar interests. As a matter of safety, PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS MUST STAY WITH THEIR ASSIGNED AMBASSADOR.
HOW DO I REGISTER?
Parents/guardians should complete this application and pick the top three dates and times. You will be contacted by Mrs. Beard with the date and time of your student's visit, at which point you can make arrangements with your student's current school. Mrs. Beard must speak to the parent/guardian before the date of the visit; otherwise, the visit will be denied. Please do not assume that you will automatically get your first choice of date, time, or ambassador.
